SMTA Int'l Breaks New Ground at Disney
Minneapolis, MN — The SMTA's program for SMTA International will be held at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida on October 24-28, 2010. This year's program allows the attendee to choose from 20 courses, 130 technical papers, 4 focused symposia, and numerous free offerings throughout the conference.

Over one hundred leading-edge suppliers are being featured in the SMTAI Electronics Exhibition, which will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, October 26-27. This year SMTAI has new tools and events on the show floor to help connect conference attendees with exhibitors such as free tech sessions, Doctor's Hours featuring technologists in select booths, and free lunch on the show floor. SMTAI 2010 offers educational opportunities covering Manufacturing and Assembly, Advanced Packaging, Substrates, Soldering, and Quality and Reliability. Technical sessions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tutorials are full- and half-day educational courses offered on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. The conference proudly offers 6 new tutorials in 2010.

The AIMS Harsh Environments Symposium joins the list of focused symposia which are included in technical conference registration this year. The other informative offerings include the Evolving Technologies Summit, Contract Manufacturing Symposium, and Lead-Free Soldering Technology Symposium.

Rounding out the program is the Keynote Address during the Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Wednesday that will feature Tom Sharpe of SMT Corporation presenting "Counterfeit Components Are Everywhere — What's Your Strategy?" He will provide a first-hand narration and a photo-documented tour of the counterfeiting and resale of electronic components in Shantou & Shenzhen, China. The presentation provides compelling and clear evidence showing this threat is far worse than previously imagined.

Tom Sharpe is the Vice President of SMT Corporation, located in Sandy Hook Connecticut. Tom co-founded SMT with his wife Kirsten in 1995 and they have since built SMT into one of the industry's leading Independent Stocking Distributors of electronic components. In addition to being a long-time member of ERAI, Tom is the current Vice President of IDEA where he has served continuously on the Board of Directors since the year of it's formation in 2003.
